Food Bank Facts

    • The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
    • We have served the hungry in our 11 parish service area for nearly 30 years
    • There are more than 130 agencies to which the Food Bank provides food, completely free of charge
    • In 2013, we distributed more than 9.6 million meal
    • Each dollar donated provides the equivalent of 5 meals for the Food Bank
    • We operate efficiently. Our administrative costs are just under 4 percent of our total operating budget
    • The Food Bank relies on community support. Last year, more than 2,616 volunteers donated time equivalent to roughly 13 full-time employees
    • The Food Bank has a service area where 17 percent of the population is at or below the poverty line
    • The Food Bank is an affiliate of Feeding America, the nationwide network of food banks and food rescue organizations

  • Volunteer. Volunteers are the heart and spirit of the Food Bank. Typical tasks include sorting and separating donated food, assisting with special events and office duties, and helping with collection barrels.
